An Artful Tea
CALL TO ARTISTS
“There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.” – Henry James
We think an hour working with clay is extremely agreeable, too, but first, tea.
With the League’s January 2027 exhibit at Hatch1121, Fired and Fabricated II, we are planning a delightful afternoon having tea – in League artist-created teacups and saucers/tea bowls of course.
That means we need your artistic help.
Please create two similar sets of teacups and saucers, to be used at a tea ceremony with a tea master. The lucky people who buy tickets to attend this event will drink from one set, which is included in the price of the event ticket, and each person will be able to buy a second matching set. Proceeds from that second set (set price is $30) will go to the artist. We ask that the first set to be used in the ceremony be an artist donation to the League.
■ There are specific sizes for the teacups (2.5H X 2.5W) and the saucers (4.5W). Sets with handles and without handles are allowed. We need 25 sets.
■ We would also welcome teapots, serving plates and low vases (5” max height), to be used during the ceremony. These would be made by different artists than those making the tea sets. Proceeds from the sale of these go to the artist, with 25% for CLPB.
** For those of you who like to make food, we will be serving finger sandwiches, scones and other appropriate tea service fixins. Please RSVP to Lynn Kalber if you’d like to provide some of these tasty bits: LynnKalber@gmail.com.
