ABOUT THE WORK
I work chiefly in ceramics and also in textiles. My throw pillows tend to be whimsical and highly decorative involving hand sewing with lots of labor-intensive details. Some incorporate reproducing photo images onto fabric and then embellishing the material with additional fabrics, water color painting, or three dimensional accents such as elaborate ribbon embroidery or beads. I make adorable Christmas stockings from elegant materials with lots of embellishments. A miniature size stocking (approx. 6" x 2") provides an interesting table decoration at the holidays as it can be used as a favor to hold candies at a place setting and taken home by your guest. But I like my stockings too well to use as favors so I put them at each place setting holding the napkin and utensils. They are unique, very pretty and a conversation piece.
My ceramics are cheerful table top items which would enhance any table scape. I also make interesting necklaces from porcelain which can be in the form of molded shells, handmade flowers or tropical sea creatures and birds. My bowls and platters sometimes include finishing details of these flora or fauna.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I started working in ceramics in Utah at college in the early '60's. I loved throwing on the wheel although it takes a murderous toll on ones' manicure! I do most of my work now in the hand-built tradition which gives the work a more relaxed look. My living was made as an interior designer in my native Toronto, Ontario. During the 90's I rediscovered ceramics as a relaxing creative outlet and when I moved to Florida permanently in 1995 I continued to study clay at The Armory and at various workshops and classes. My work has been displayed at several local exhibitions and at Original Elements in Tequesta at The Village Art Studios during 2009-2010.
