ARTIST' STATEMENT
Building ceramic functional pieces has become one of my joys. The challenge of manipulating clay into harmonious shapes offers me both mental and physical rewards. The diversities of form, variety of surface textures and color that can be attained is infinite. Into every form I build new layers of complexity and depth that are pleasing in form, personally connected and well crafted.
ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY
I started out as a photographer with a strong desire to paint. After retirement I tried to advance my knowledge in oil painting when I discovered ceramics. I learned with clay, I could realize most of my artistic dreams by creating three-dimensional forms and adding color and texture. Architecture influences a lot of my work. As in photography, I am drawn to weathered surfaces like old barn doors where paint is chipped, or rust like surfaces, hence my admiration for wood firing process.
All my pieces are functional and well crafted. I enjoy hand building and the use of a wood fired kiln. It gives me a felling of connection with all my pieces by using those two processes. The joy I receive by creating these forms reflects in the finished product.
Last year I entered one of my hand built pieces into a Palm Beach State Collage art show and recieved scond place. I am now an exhibiting member of the Ceramic League of the Palm Beaches, which offers me the opportunity to enter juried shows through out the country.
